RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Search and rescue operations continue in Pasirlangu Village, Cisarua Subdistrict, West Bandung Regency, West Java, following a devastating landslide. The West Java Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) reports that the number of recovered bodies has now reached 53.

Teten Ali Mulku Engkun, Chief Executive of West Java BPBD, remarked that search efforts are far from over, as dozens more are feared trapped beneath the debris.

"We have successfully evacuated 53 fatalities. However, 27 individuals remain missing and are currently the focus of our ongoing search," Teten said on Thursday, January 29, 2026.

Authorities are currently working to confirm the identities of all recovered victims through the National Police’s Disaster Victim Identification (DVI) protocols. While 37 individuals have been successfully identified, the process remains ongoing for those who have recently been evacuated.

A total of 16 remains are still pending official identification by the forensic teams on-site. According to Teten, these efforts are crucial to ensure every victim is accurately accounted for before being returned to their families.

Ade Dian Permana, Head of the Bandung Search and Rescue (SAR) Office, emphasized that his team is working to integrate and validate victim data alongside the DVI Command Post. This follows a previous discrepancy involving three body bags that had been recorded by DVI but required reconciliation with field data.

He confirmed the issue has been resolved. "The data discrepancy has been verified and officially incorporated into the data for the next phase of the operation," said Ade. (Annaila Azzahra/Bambang MBKA)
