RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta – The National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB), in collaboration with the Cilacap Regency Administration in Cental Java, officially handed over 17 temporary shelters in Cibeunying Village on Tuesday, January 27, 2026. These units are designated for families whose homes were severely damaged or buried by landslides on November 13, 2025.
BNPB Deputy for Logistics and Equipment, Andi Eviana, marked the occasion with a symbolic ribbon-cutting ceremony. She emphasized that the temporary housing was built with adequate facilities to support the residents' basic daily needs.
“A total of 56 temporary shelters have been constructed, and today, 17 keys were handed over to the beneficiaries. This process will eventually transition into the construction of permanent housing,” she said during the handover ceremony in Jenang Village, Central Java, on Tuesday, January 27, 2026.
Andi further explained that the government plans to build permanent residences for all 56 beneficiary families. This progression from temporary to permanent housing is intended to serve as a catalyst for the recovery of the victims' lives and livelihoods.
She urged the community to maintain and utilize the homes responsibly once they move into permanent locations. BNPB strictly prohibits the renting or selling of these units, as they are government-funded aid specifically for disaster victims.
“Once these become permanent homes, we hope the Regent and the Central Java Provincial BPBD can draft regulations regarding their utilization. It is strictly forbidden for these units to be rented out,” she added.
One beneficiary, Tarkim, expressed deep gratitude for the assistance, noting that the shelter is vital for the community's post-disaster recovery.
“I would like to thank the President, the Head of BNPB, the Governor of Central Java, and the Regent of Cilacap. This housing greatly supports our daily needs,” he said.
Currently, 36 units in Jenang Village are ready for occupancy, with the remaining 18 units targeted for completion by January 31, 2026. Each temporary shelter is equipped with a bedroom, toilet, kitchen, living area, and supporting household equipment.
In total, the central governments and local administration are constructing 56 units, as 49 original homes were found to be located within high-risk disaster zones. (Annaila Azzahra/Bambang MBKA)
