RRI.CO.ID, Kabupaten Gorontalo - The Gorontalo Regency Administration in Gorontalo Province has launched a comprehensive multi-sectoral initiative to revitalize the Haya-Haya spring. This vital water source is poised to become a cornerstone for regional health and economic development.

As reported by Antara, this strategic rehabilitation effort is centered in the West Limboto Subdistrict and aims to secure a steady clean water supply. By using integrated resource management, the project also seeks to address critical issues such as stunting and rural poverty.

Risman K. Umar, Head of the Gorontalo Regency Public Works and Housing Agency, confirmed on Wednesday, January 28, 2026, that his team is currently mapping the area’s clean water potential.

This move directly addresses formal requests from the Haya-Haya village administration for technical surveys and data collection to support a robust water procurement program.

"This is a response to the Haya-Haya Village Administration’s request regarding the need for surveys and technical data for proposed clean water procurement programs," said Risman.

Despite its long-standing history, the spring is currently operating with infrastructure that has not seen significant upgrades in over four decades. While the water quality remains high and the flow stable enough to support three surrounding villages, current facilities are deteriorating.

"Although it is named the Haya-Haya spring, this water source has a fairly good debit and is capable of supplying clean water needs for approximately three villages around Haya-Haya. From initial observations, the water quality is also classified as good," added Risman.

The rehabilitation project is not limited to domestic consumption, officials see a broader potential for the spring to anchor sustainable tourism, fisheries, and agricultural irrigation. To ensure a holistic approach, the Public Works Agency has mobilized a high-level joint team.

The Gorontalo Regency Public Works and Housing Agency involved a joint team from the Forestry Ministry, the Regional Revenue Agency (Bappenda), the Indonesian Military, and the National Police in an inspection of the spring's location. This site visit also included Tirta Limutu Regional Public Water Utility and the Gorontalo State University (UNG) SDGs Center to strengthen the fostered village program.

By collaborating with the UNG SDGs Center, the administration intends to transform the area into a model of a "fostered village." "We are working together across sectors, including being accompanied by a team from Gorontalo State University, in the context of strengthening fostered villages in Gorontalo Regency," explained Risman.

This collaboration is expected to provide the technical and social framework needed to modernize the 40-year-old infrastructure. These efforts will ensure the Haya-Haya spring can once again serve the community at its full capacity for generations to come. ***
