RRI.CO.ID, Gunungsitoli – The Indonesian Social Affairs Ministry has donated a collection of Braille books to Gunungsitoli, North Sumatra, to enhance literacy accessibility for the visually impaired. This donation, which includes audiobooks, aim to broaden access to knowledge within the city.

Mei Linda Rostanti Larosa, Head of the Gunungsitoli Library and Archives Agency, confirmed that the municipal administration received four Braille volumes specifically for blind patrons, alongside 28 audiobooks. This donation marks a significant step toward providing equitable and user-friendly information access for all.

"The arrival of these Braille books is expected to open wider access to literacy, ensuring that every individual, without exception, can enjoy the world of knowledge. This program aligns with our efforts to promote social inclusion-based libraries, where we strive to provide services for all levels of society, including those with disabilities," she said on Tuesday, January 27, 2026.

The library management warmly received the assistance, noting that the new collection reinforces Gunungsitoli Library's role as an inclusive literacy hub. This is particularly vital for the disabled community, who have historically faced limited access to reading materials.

"We invite our patrons with disabilities, especially the visually impaired, to utilize this collection as a means of learning, reading, and expanding their horizons," added Mei Linda.

The agency also expressed its gratitude to Yusdi Ndraha for a personal donation of two additional books. "Every contribution carries great meaning in supporting the development of our library's collection and services.
