RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta – The “Merah Putih” Fishermen’s Village (KNMP) in Poncosari, Srandakan Subdistrict, has officially reached full completion, marking a new chapter for the coastal community of Yogyakarta. The project is designed as a model for modern maritime infrastructure, transforming traditional fishing hubs into dynamic economic centers.

Poncosari is among the first sites to be completed in a nationwide rollout led by the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries (KKP). While construction was accelerated, officials stressed that quality and functionality were prioritized over deadlines.

“The accelerated construction is being carried out not only to meet the deadline, but also to ensure that all facilities meet the quality and functional standards required by fishermen,” said Trian Yunanda, Chairman of the KNMP Construction Coordination Team, in a statement on Saturday, January 24, 2026, as quoted by Antara.

The completed site features a comprehensive cold chain system to maintain the quality of the catch, including portable cold storage units, ice factories, and specialized coolbox shelters.

Supporting facilities include a management office, supply kiosks, a fisherman’s workshop, a community hall, a culinary center to promote local tourism, and a net-repair shelter.

The Poncosari development represents a milestone in the ministry’s ambitious roadmap. The first phase targets 65 coastal locations across Indonesia, with 35 expected to be completed by the end of January 2026. The long-term plan envisions 1,000 sites by 2029.

With the infrastructure now ready, management will be handed over to the Merah Putih Village Cooperative (KDMP). Trian emphasized that immediate utilization is the priority, ensuring fishermen benefit directly from improved facilities, better market access, and reduced post-harvest losses. ***
