RRI.CO.ID, Bekasi City — Multiple areas across Bekasi City, West Java, remain submerged in floodwaters today following a period of extreme weather. The impact is most significant within several residential complexes in the West Bekasi Subdistrict.
One of the hardest-hit locations is the Bintara Jaya Subdistrict, with the most severe flooding reported in the Mas Naga Housing Complex.
Raya Komara, a local monitoring officer for Bintara Jaya, conveyed that the flooding began on Thursday, January 22, 2026. As of Friday, January 23, 2026, there have been no visible signs of the water receding.
He explained that the inundation was triggered by high-intensity rainfall coupled with the overflow of the Bong River, which flows toward the East Flood Canal (BKT). Flood levels are currently fluctuating between 100 cm and 120 cm, reaching the waist height of an average adult.
The Head of Bintara Jaya Subdistrict, Indah Choiriyah, noted that the floods have affected at least six neighborhood units (RW), specifically RW 02, 08, 10, 11, and 12.
In response, local authorities have coordinated with the Bekasi City Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) to prepare for the evacuation of vulnerable groups, including children and the elderly.
Despite the rising waters, the majority of residents have opted to remain in their homes. Others have sought temporary shelter with relatives or neighbors in unaffected areas.
"We have coordinated with the BPBD to ensure readiness should evacuations become necessary. We are also in the process of establishing two emergency posts, which are a flood relief command center and a dedicated health post," added Indah Choiriyah. (Annaila Azzahra/Bambang MBKA)
