KBRN, Bekasi Regency: The Bekasi Regency Administration will intensify vaccination efforts to prevent the spread of Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) among livestock, mirroring a similar strategy implemented in 2024.
"Vaccination remains our top priority in preventing the spread of FMD among livestock. Therefore, just like last year, we will intensify our efforts this year as well," said Bekasi Regency Agriculture Agency's Animal Health and Veterinary Public Health Head Dwian Wahyudiharto on Tuesday (Jan 14), as quoted by rri.co.id.
He explained that in 2024, a total of 37,459 livestock of various types received vaccinations from the Bekasi Regency Administration. This includes 14,605 cows, 19,176 sheep, 3,674 goats, and four buffaloes.
"Our preventive efforts also include providing supportive treatment for livestock suspected of having FMD. This is something we continue to intensify," he said.
The Agriculture Agency has also been providing vitamins and conducting socialization on the importance of maintaining clean barns and animal health. These are priority programs in 2025 to prevent the spread of FMD among livestock.
Currently, he admitted that they have conducted data collection and field surveys. The results showed that 148 livestock were found to be infected with FMD.
"Of that number, 108 have recovered, two have died, 14 have been conditionally slaughtered, and 24 are still under our supervision," he said.
He urged farmers to always maintain the health of their livestock. This includes conducting regular check-ups and maintaining clean barns to prevent the spread of the disease.
“FMD is actually not a dangerous disease, but early detection is necessary as an anticipatory measure. In addition, make sure that livestock are always in good condition and that the barns are always hygienic,” he concluded. ***
