RRI.CO.ID, Bekasi Regency - The Bekasi Regency Environmental Agency (DLH) has set a target to establish 200 new waste banks in 2026, with facilities planned for every neighborhood unit across the regency.

Team Leader of the Waste Control and Management Division at DLH Bekasi Regency, Nurul Fitria, said the target marks a significant increase from 2025, when 80 units were built. She added that the waste banks established last year continue to receive guidance to ensure they operate independently, optimally, and sustainably.

Bekasi Regency currently hosts 482 waste bank units. To maintain consistent operations, DLH conducts regular evaluations, including revitalizing inactive units. “Our long-term objective is to realize the ‘One Neighborhood Unit, One Waste Bank’ program across Bekasi Regency. We are progressively building new waste banks every year,” Nurul said on Wednesday, May 20, 2026.

In terms of capacity building, DLH provides comprehensive support, including management training, guidance on waste sorting and weighing, organizational structuring, and comparative studies.

Nurul emphasized that waste banks play a pivotal role in strengthening waste management at its source, reducing waste volume directly from households. “We hope that waste sorting becomes an ingrained lifestyle for the community, while simultaneously fostering a circular economy-based waste management system to achieve a zero-waste concept,” she concluded.
