RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta – Visitors can try on traditional Minangkabau attire and take memorable photos at the magnificent Istano Basa Pagaruyung in West Sumatra. This grand structure serves as a stunning replica of the ancient Pagaruyung Kingdom's royal palace.
The palace features a traditional Rumah Gadang architectural style with multi-tiered roofs and colorful carved walls. It stands as a vital cultural center for preserving local history and heritage.
Originally built as the official residence of the Raja Alam, the palace governed a confederation of regions known as luhak nan tigo. Visitors today can explore its three levels, which once housed royal living quarters and governance halls.
The building has faced destruction by fire twice throughout history, once in 1804 and again in 2007. Despite these disasters, dedicated reconstruction efforts have successfully restored its majestic appearance.
