RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta – Rumah Kelahiran Bung Hatta Museum honors the birthplace of the first Indonesian Vice President Bung Hatta by preserving the historic childhood home of the nation's esteemed proclaimer in Bukittinggi, West Sumatra. Visitors can explore personal collections, books, and photographs that document his extraordinary life and political journey.

Originally constructed in the 1860s by his maternal grandfather, Haji Ilyas Bagindo Marah, the two-story traditional wooden house shaped the leader's characteristic humility. Mohammad Hatta spent his formative youth within this historic residence before it eventually fell into disrepair and was demolished by a later private owner.

Recognizing its immense historical significance, the land was repurchased by Bung Hatta University during the 1990s to restore the national landmark. Reconstruction efforts were proudly supported by the Bukittinggi municipal government as part of the city's 50th-anniversary commemorative program.

The restored museum was officially inaugurated on August 12, 1995, coinciding precisely with the birth anniversary of the beloved first vice president. During the rebuilding process, the structure was slightly shifted backward from its original footprint to accommodate the modern Soekarno-Hatta street layout.

Exhibitions inside feature detailed dioramas, family genealogical charts, and historical documents illustrating Hatta's journey from childhood to adulthood. These carefully curated displays offer deep educational insights into his lifelong dedication to Indonesia's independence and national sovereignty.

Visitors can also walk through the specific backyard room where Hatta slept as a young man, featuring an authentic vintage bicycle. Such personal artifacts allow tourists and students to deeply connect with his humble beginnings and revolutionary spirit.

Today, the museum serves as a powerful patriotic destination that successfully instills national pride among domestic and international visitors alike. It remains a vital educational site for understanding the personal and intellectual roots of one of Indonesia's greatest founding fathers.
