RRI.CO.ID, Labuan Bajo – Member of the Indonesian House of Representatives Novita Wijayanti has stressed service quality at Komodo International Airport in Labuan Bajo, West Manggarai Regency, East Nusa Tenggara. As one of the entry points for both international and domestic tourists, the airport needs to ensure professional, safe, and comfortable services for all passengers and other airport users.
Novita made the remarks while leading a House visit to Komodo International Airport on Sunday, September 27, 2026. The visit aimed to directly assess the airport's readiness in terms of services, facilities, security, and operational support in meeting the needs of airport users.
“We want to see directly how services are being provided at Komodo Airport, in terms of facilities, security, and comfort. This airport is one of the main entry points for people and tourists arriving in Labuan Bajo,” Novita said, as quoted by dpr.go.id.
She said services at Komodo International Airport should be provided professionally and equally to all users. This includes service support for members of the House of Representatives carrying out official duties in the regions, particularly under certain circumstances or in emergencies.
Novita also highlighted the importance of the airport's preparedness in dealing with the aftermath of the earthquake that struck the Flores region. She said the airport plays a strategic role as a connectivity hub supporting the mobilization of residents, personnel, logistics, aid, and other resources needed for post-disaster response.
“Allow us to express our deep concern and condolences over the earthquake disaster in Flores, East Nusa Tenggara. May our brothers and sisters affected by the disaster be granted safety, strength and resilience, and may Flores and its people recover and rise again soon,” Novita said during a discussion with officials from Komodo International Airport.
She said the post-disaster situation further demonstrated the importance of ensuring that the airport's emergency facilities and procedures are always ready for use. Therefore, interagency coordination, the speed of personnel in responding to emergencies, and the delivery of clear information to airport users need to be continuously strengthened.
“It is not only about services, but also about security and comfort. There is an aspiration for this airport to be expanded further with various facilities according to existing needs. God willing, we will bring this aspiration forward for further discussion and work toward its realization together,” she said.
Meanwhile, Novita emphasized the importance of hospitality as part of excellent service at Komodo International Airport. The friendliness, responsiveness, attentiveness, and courtesy of airport personnel are considered important in shaping tourists' impressions of Labuan Bajo and Indonesia as a whole.
“Hospitality and service must be maximized: friendliness, helpfulness, not being indifferent, as well as courtesy and good manners. Moreover, those coming here are not only domestic travelers but also visitors from abroad. Therefore, Indonesia's good image must be maintained,” she explained.
During the visit, the DPR also received proposals to develop Komodo International Airport's capacity and facilities. Novita said the proposals would be taken into consideration for further discussion, in line with public needs, efforts to strengthen emergency preparedness, and the development of Labuan Bajo as an international tourist destination.
“We are here not only for members of the House of Representatives, but for the entire community and all airport users in Labuan Bajo, and certainly for people throughout Indonesia in general,” Novita concluded.
