RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia's Tourism Minister, Widiyanti Putri Wardhana, said Indonesia’s tourism investment realization reached a record Rp73.56 trillion in 2025. She made the statement at the Monthly Economic Diplomatic Breakfast forum organized by the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KADIN Indonesia) at the Sapta Pesona Building, Ministry of Tourism, on Friday, September 10, 2026.

“Currently, around 76.5 percent of tourism investment is concentrated in Jakarta and Bali, with 75 percent of it going into hotel and restaurant development. Therefore, we are now diversifying investment into other priority destinations beyond Bali and Jakarta,” Widiyanti said, as quoted in an official statement.

The figures indicate significant room to expand tourism investment, both geographically and across different types of businesses. The government is therefore actively inviting foreign investors and international partners, including with support from KADIN Indonesia, to channel investment into 13 Priority Destinations and 10 Tourism Special Economic Zones (SEZs).

Investment is also being encouraged in sectors beyond hotels and restaurants, particularly supporting infrastructure to improve accessibility, such as cruise ship marinas, as well as the development of new tourism attractions. The diversification is expected to create a stronger tourism ecosystem while opening up more economic opportunities for local communities.

“The government provides various investment facilities, ranging from income tax reductions, or tax allowances, and incentives for labor-intensive industries to import duty exemptions for tourism equipment and yachts,” the Minister said.

She said opportunities to distribute investment more evenly are growing as tourist travel patterns shift beyond the traditional focus on Java and Bali. Several destinations outside these areas recorded strong visitor growth in early 2026.

Tourist visits to Lake Toba, for example, grew by more than 106 percent, while visits to Lombok–Gili Tramena increased by 72.1 percent. Labuan Bajo has also continued to record visitor growth and remains one of the destinations with strong prospects for tourism investment development.

“The government is ensuring that these major tourism areas remain safe and ready to welcome visitors amid recovery efforts following the impact of the disaster in the Flores region,” Widiyanti said.

According to her, these developments have been supported by the continued positive performance of Indonesia’s tourism economy. Tourism’s contribution to gross domestic product (GDP) increased from Rp729.1 trillion in 2022 to Rp1.14 quadrillion in 2025 and is targeted to reach Rp1.19 quadrillion by the end of 2026.

“This positive growth provides a strong foundation for the Ministry of Tourism and its strategic partners, including KADIN Indonesia and international partners, to continue working together to strengthen tourism as one of the pillars supporting national economic growth, creating investment opportunities, and driving businesses and employment across regions,” Widiyanti said.
