RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Foreign tourist arrivals to Indonesia expanded by 5.23 percent year-on-year to reach 8.98 million visits between January and July 2026, driven by strong growth across Asian and Oceanian markets.
Presenting the Monthly Tourism Performance Report in Jakarta on Friday, September 11, 2026, Tourism Minister Widiyanti Putri Wardhana emphasized that market diversification strategies have maintained industry resilience amid global economic uncertainty and geopolitical shifts. Foreign exchange earnings from tourism during the first half of 2026 rose 2.88 percent to USD 8.43 billion (IDR 145.13 trillion), compared to USD 8.20 billion in H1 2025.
Deputy Tourism Minister Ni Luh Puspa added that domestic tourism surged to 737.85 million trips (+3.34%), while outbound travel by Indonesian citizens dropped 3.25 percent to 5.26 million, securing a net travel surplus of 3.71 million trips. The average hotel occupancy rate across the country rose to 49.13 percent through July.
Tourism Minister Widiyanti Putri Wardhana highlighted market mitigation and economic distribution across local supply chains. She said that we must certainly be grateful for this achievement, but the global situation remains very dynamic, the ministry continues to execute market mitigation strategies to ensure this growth momentum holds through the end of the year.
"Amid global economic uncertainty, Indonesian tourism continues to demonstrate resilience. For us, tourism is not just about arrival figures, but about how much economic value tourists leave behind in Indonesia and how broadly those benefits reach the public," Widiyanti said in Jakarta on Friday, September 11, 2026, as quoted by Antara.
Deputy Tourism Minister Ni Luh Puspa noted the strong stabilization provided by domestic travel and local spending.
