Ministry of Tourism Coordination Regarding the Fire in the Bromo Area

RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The Ministry of Tourism continues to monitor the fire situation in the Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park area and is coordinating with relevant ministries, agencies, local governments, and park management regarding the response.

The safety of the public, tourists, staff, and all tourism stakeholders is the top priority. Therefore, the ministry fully supports the decision to temporarily close tourist access to Mount Bromo until the authorities declare conditions safe.

The Ministry of Tourism urges tourists not to attempt to travel to the closed areas and to stay updated with official information from the Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park Authority and local governments. The Ministry also calls on the tourism industry to provide clear information and assist with travel adjustments in accordance with applicable regulations.

According to data from the Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park Authority, a total of 3,062 people purchased online tickets for visits between 9 August and 15 August 2026, comprising 2,671 domestic tourists and 391 international tourists.

Tourists scheduled to visit between 9 August and 11 August 2026—or until the area reopens—may currently opt to reschedule or request a refund.

Rescheduling requests are exempt from change fees and are valid until 31 December 2026. Full refunds will be processed via direct transfer to a bank account or e-wallet.

Tourists wishing to reschedule or request a refund may fill out the form at https://bit.ly/form-refund-reschedule-karhutla-bromo and upload proof of their ticket or payment. Confirmation of the request will be provided via email or WhatsApp.

According to a press release received by Voice of Indonesia on Tuesday, 11 August 2026, the deadline for submitting the form is 31 August 2026. Meanwhile, the refund process takes between 3 and 14 working days. Regarding accommodation, information and coordination between the Ministry of Tourism and the Indonesian Hotel and Restaurant Association (PHRI) indicate that there is currently no specific mechanism for hotel refunds or rescheduling; standard procedures still apply.

This fire serves as a reminder that eco-tourism destinations are ecosystems we must protect together. Tourism activities must always prioritize safety, compliance with conservation area regulations, and environmental responsibility.

Once the situation is contained, the Ministry of Tourism will continue to coordinate with stakeholders to support the recovery of tourism activities and assist the local communities whose livelihoods depend on the Bromo tourism ecosystem.
