RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Youth athlete development in Indonesia is entering a new phase through the strengthening of the sport science ecosystem. The Youth and Sports Ministry has officially partnered with the National Innovation and Research Agency (BRIN) and universities to integrate research and artificial intelligence (AI)-based technology into the national sports system.
BRIN’s Deputy for Science and Technology Human Resources, Edy Giri Rachman Putra, conveyed that advances in science and technology are crucial for national sports development. He noted that such innovations can strengthen various supporting aspects athletes need to achieve world-class performance.
“Turns out, it’s not only talent that must be strengthened, but also the supporting system. One example could be athlete nutrition, how their supplements and diet are managed, that’s all science,” said Edy during the Road to Talent Fest 2026 in the sports sector at the National Development Planning Ministry in Jakarta on Thursday, August 14, 2026.
He added that beyond nutrition, technology applications can extend to the development of sports equipment and the formulation of strategies for athletes in training and competition. “Then there’s sports equipment and also strategy. Those will certainly fall under science and technology, using AI and so on,” he said, as quoted by Antara.
Edy said that the development of science and technology will increasingly be applied across various fields, including sports, and that BRIN is ready to support the strengthening of national talent. This collaboration aligns with the Youth and Sports Ministry’s efforts to integrate sport science into athlete development from the youth level up to the elite tier.
Deputy for Sports Performance Enhancement at the Youth and Sports Ministry, Surono, said his office is currently partnering with universities to advance sport science and is opening opportunities for cooperation with BRIN.
The ministry is synchronizing the National Talent Management (MTN) program with the National Sports Grand Design (DBON). This alignment spans key areas, including athlete development, competition, personnel quality, infrastructure, and data management.
Meanwhile, Deputy for Human Development and Culture at the National Development Planning Ministry, Pungkas Bahjuri Ali, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to developing the National Talent Management (MTN) program. He conveyed that the program is aimed at producing outstanding talent capable of achieving at both national and international levels.
The program covers sports, arts and culture, as well as research and innovation, as part of the Golden Indonesia 2045 vision. ***
