RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Jakarta’s State Palace became the stage for a high‑level dialogue on sports development as FIFA President Gianni Infantino met Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto, accompanied by Chairman of the Indonesian Football Association (PSSI) Erick Thohir, on Monday afternoon, October 5, 2026.

The talks centered on strengthening Indonesia’s sporting landscape, with football as a key pillar. “Alhamdulillah, it was a very good meeting. The President emphasized that football and sports are vital for building national character,” Erick Thohir said after the discussion, as quoted on the Indonesian Ministry of Youth and Sports official website.

President Prabowo reaffirmed his commitment to advancing sports nationwide, noting that facilities across regions should be integrated with local clubs to nurture talent and instill values.

“As promised to Mr. Gianni Infantino, the President will push for sports facilities at both regional and national levels to be utilized in collaboration with clubs, as part of character building,” Erick explained.

President Prabowo also expressed gratitude to FIFA for entrusting Indonesia with major events such as the U‑17 World Cup and the upcoming FIFA ASEAN Cup 2026. “For future events, the government is ready to fully support FIFA’s activities,” Erick stressed.

Infantino, visibly pleased to return to Jakarta, praised Indonesia’s passion for football and its leadership. “Indonesia is a great football nation, with a strong leader and of course Erick Thohir as the head of the football association,” he remarked.

He described President Prabowo as a genuine football enthusiast who understands the sport deeply. “We discussed strategies and vision for Indonesia -- stadiums, pitches, schools, and everything related to youth football,” Infantino said.

Highlighting the inaugural FIFA ASEAN Cup in Indonesia, Infantino called it “a fantastic and historic edition,” underscoring FIFA’s collaboration with PSSI to ensure long‑term impact. ***
