RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia concluded its Asian Games Aichi-Nagoya 2026 campaign with a medal haul that surpassed its gold-medal target, highlighting strong performances across several sports despite finishing lower in the standings than at the previous edition of the Games.
The Indonesian contingent finished 16th in the final medal table with a total of 39 medals, comprising five gold, 11 silver, and 23 bronze medals, Antara reported. The five gold medals exceeded the target of four golds previously set by the Ministry of Youth and Sports.
Badminton emerged as Indonesia’s leading contributor, delivering two gold medals. The first came from the men’s team, which defeated China in the final, while the second was secured by men’s doubles pair Leo Rolly Carnando and Daniel Marthin.
The remaining gold medals were won in weightlifting, sport climbing, and archery. Rahmat Erwin Abdullah claimed the weightlifting title in the men's 75-kilogram category after lifting a total of 366 kilograms, consisting of a 160-kilogram snatch and a 206-kilogram clean and jerk.
In sport climbing, Desak Made Rita Kusuma Dewi captured gold in the women’s speed event with a time of 6.062 seconds, narrowly defeating China’s Li Juan Deng by just 0.002 seconds.
Indonesia’s final gold medal came through Nurisa Dian Ashrifah, who won the women’s compound individual archery event by edging the Philippines’ Amaya Amparo Cojuangco 139-137. The victory marked Indonesia’s first-ever Asian Games gold medal in archery.
Beyond the gold medals, Indonesia collected 11 silvers from badminton, beach volleyball, esports, padel, rowing, sepak takraw, shooting, surfing, and teqball. Surfing’s silver came through I Made Pajar Ariyana, while mixed doubles pair Amri Syahnawi and Nita Violina Marwah added another silver in badminton.
Indonesia's 23 bronze medals were spread across a wide range of sports, including wushu, badminton, cycling, karate, mixed martial arts, padel, sepak takraw, shooting, soft tennis, teqball, canoe sprint, and weightlifting. Wushu proved the most productive contributor in that category with five bronze medals.
Although Indonesia increased its overall medal total from 36 medals at the Hangzhou 2022 Asian Games to 39 medals in Aichi-Nagoya, the country slipped from 13th to 16th in the medal standings because it collected fewer gold medals. In Hangzhou, Indonesia won seven golds, 11 silvers, and 18 bronzes.
At the top of the table, China finished as the overall champion with 169 gold, 89 silver, and 83 bronze medals for a total of 341. Host nation Japan placed second with 83 gold, 95 silver, and 91 bronze medals, while South Korea finished third with 39 gold, 95 silver, and 68 bronze medals.
Despite the slight decline in ranking, Indonesia’s performance demonstrated growing competitiveness across a broader range of sports, with athletes contributing medals from both traditional strengths and emerging disciplines throughout the Games. ***
