RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia’s men’s field hockey team clinched a dramatic 3–2 shoot‑out victory over Oman after a 3–3 draw in regulation time, securing 11th place in the classification round of the Aichi–Nagoya 2026 Asian Games on Thursday, October 1.
The contest at Gifu Prefectural Green Stadium was fiercely balanced, with both sides trading goals and momentum throughout, Antara reported.
Indonesia pressed forward with ball possession and attacking pressure, while Oman relied on counterattacks led by forward Aiman Madit to threaten the Red‑and‑White defense.
Neither team managed to hold a lead for long, as goals were quickly answered at the other end. By the final quarter, intensity rose with Indonesia pushing from close range and Oman searching for a decisive strike. Yet the score remained locked at 3–3, forcing the match into a shoot‑out.
In the penalty decider, Asrul Alam and teammates held their nerve to edge Oman 3–2, sealing Indonesia’s first win in the classification stage and confirming their finish in 11th place.
The result came after Indonesia ended the group stage bottom of Group A, following defeats to India, South Korea, Japan, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka. Their narrow 3–4 loss to Sri Lanka earlier in the week had consigned them to the placement matches.
Despite the struggles in the preliminary round, Thursday’s victory provided a positive closing note for Indonesia’s campaign, highlighting resilience and determination in the face of tough competition. ***
