RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia reached a historic milestone in Asian Games archery as Nurisa Dian Ashrifah won the country’s first-ever gold medal in the sport by taking the compound women’s individual title at the 2026 Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan.

Nurisa defeated the Philippines’ Amaya Amparo Cojuangco 139-137 in the final at Okazaki Chuo Sogo Park Multipurpose, Aichi, Japan, on Thursday, October 1, 2026, according to the tournament organizer’s website.

The gold marked Indonesia’s first Asian Games title in archery after the country’s previous best results were silver medals.

Indonesia previously won silver through Tatang Budiman, Donald Pandiangan and Suradi Rukimin in the men’s recurve team event at the 1982 Asian Games; Danahuri Dahliana, Rusena Gelanteh and Purnama Pandiangan in the women’s recurve team event at the 1994 Asian Games; and Diananda Choirunisa in the women’s individual recurve event at the 2018 Asian Games.

Nurisa displayed confidence and accuracy throughout the final, Antara reported. Her composure helped her handle the pressure in the decisive stage, where she hit the 10-point zone with her arrow. The historic victory brought Indonesia’s gold-medal tally to five at the 2026 Asian Games.

The other four gold medals came from the men’s badminton team event, men’s badminton doubles through Leo Carnando/Daniel Marthin, men’s 75kg weightlifting through Rahmat Erwin Abdullah and women’s speed climbing through Desak Made.

Indonesia still has opportunities to add to its gold-medal tally, with several athletes and teams competing in finals. The Indonesian MLBB esports team is scheduled to face Myanmar in the final on Thursday, October 1.

Indonesia is also competing in the men’s speed climbing event, with 2024 Olympic gold medalist Veddriq Leonardo and Asian Games record holder Aditya Sri Syahrial representing the country. ***
