RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesian tennis player Muhammad Rifqi Fitriadi advanced to the third round of the men's singles event at the Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian Games after defeating Pakistan's Muhammad Shoaib at the Higashiyama Park Tennis Center in Nagoya, Japan, on Tuesday.
Rifqi secured a straight-sets victory, 6-4, 6-4, in a match lasting one hour and eight minutes, Antara reported.
The 27-year-old produced a solid performance, particularly on serve. Rifqi struck four aces compared with Shoaib’s three, while both players committed two double faults.
Rifqi also delivered a more consistent first serve, landing 52 of 77 attempts for a 68 percent success rate. Shoaib managed 36 successful first serves from 63 attempts, or 58 percent.
The Indonesian also remained effective on his second serve, winning 15 of 25 points, or 60 percent. Shoaib won 16 of 28 second-serve points, for 59 percent.
Rifqi also held an advantage on returns, winning 24 of 62 points, or 39 percent, when receiving serve. Shoaib won 27 of 78 return points, or 35 percent.
On break points, Rifqi converted three of his six opportunities, while Shoaib failed to capitalize on any of his chances. The statistics reflected Rifqi’s effectiveness in serving, returning and capitalizing on crucial opportunities throughout the match.
With the victory, Rifqi progressed to the third round of the men's singles competition, where he will face China's Wu Yibing for a place in the quarterfinals. ***
