Seraf Naro Wins Indonesia's First Wushu Medal

RRI.CO.ID, Nagoya - Indonesian men’s wushu athlete, Seraf Naro Siregar won the first medal for the Indonesian contingent at the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games. Seraf secured a bronze medal in the Changquan event at the Aichi Prefectural Martial Arts Hall, Japan, on Sunday, September 20, 2026.

Competing first in the event, Seraf scored 9.720 points to finish third. Macau athletes Kuong Chi Hin and Song Chi Kuan won the gold and silver medals, respectively.

Seraf achieved the result despite suffering injuries to both legs in the weeks leading up to the competition. Although the injuries had raised doubts about his performance, Seraf maintained his confidence and delivered a solid routine to complete the event.

“It was not easy to make it to this day because I suffered injuries to both legs, even in the month and week leading up to the competition,” Seraf said after the event.

Seraf said competing first was also a challenge because the opening performance can serve as an initial benchmark for the judges. However, he managed to control the pressure and remain focused in a tightly contested event where the scores were separated by only a narrow margin.

“For an athlete, competing first is not easy because you feel like you are setting the benchmark. But I was able to control it quite well. The competition was very tight, and the score difference was very small, so I am very relieved to have won Indonesia’s first medal,” he explained.

Changquan had previously been associated with Seraf’s teammate, Edgar Xavier Marvelo. Although it is not Seraf’s main event, he successfully lived up to the team’s expectations and secured another Asian Games medal after winning bronze in the Daoshu and Gunshu events at the Hangzhou Asian Games. He dedicated this latest achievement to his coaches, family, and the people of Indonesia.
