RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia’s national esports team is preparing overseas training camps in Shanghai and Japan to sharpen athletes’ readiness for the 2026 Asian Games in Aichi–Nagoya.
Head coach Richard Permana said international exposure is crucial for several titles that require added experience before competing on Asia’s biggest sporting stage.
“Some athletes will join a short international training camp in Shanghai for Naraka and Identity V,” Richard explained on Wednesday, as quoted by Antara, adding that the national Pokémon team may also undergo a brief camp in Japan.
If schedules proceed smoothly, the Naraka and Identity V squads will return to Indonesia before heading to Japan, while the Pokémon team will travel directly to Nagoya. Richard noted that flight availability and on‑site adjustments remain factors in finalizing plans.
The overseas camps form part of broader preparations across eight esports titles. Teams such as Honor of Kings and Mobile Legends are showing strong progress domestically, while Gran Turismo continues conditioning through closed competitions.
eFootball is considered above average in readiness thanks to extensive tryouts, whereas PUBG Mobile faces challenges due to a packed competition calendar limiting preparation time.
Richard emphasized ongoing coordination with the Chef de Mission (CdM) and the Indonesian Olympic Committee (NOC) to ensure smooth departures and contingency planning. “We continue to coordinate closely. Hopefully, worst‑case scenarios won’t happen,” he said. ***
