Indonesia's Aldila Sutjiadi Sets New Grand Slam Best at US Open

RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesian tennis player Aldila Sutjiadi has reached a career-best Grand Slam result at the US Open 2026, giving Indonesian tennis greater visibility on the international stage while continuing her push for further success in New York.

Aldila said reaching the quarterfinals with New Zealand’s Erin Routliffe was her best achievement since competing in Grand Slam tournaments. Aldila/Erin advanced to the quarterfinals after defeating Hungary’s Anna Bondar and Ukraine’s Anhelina Kalinina 6-2, 4-6, 6-2 in the round of 16 in New York on Tuesday, September 8, 2026.

“I’m definitely very happy to make it to the quarterfinals, which is my best achievement in Grand Slam tournaments. It is the result of the hard work I have put in this year, together with my new coach, Christopher Rungkat,” Aldila said on Tuesday, September 8, as quoted by Antara.

“I’m very happy that it has finally paid off. There are still a lot of room for me to improve my game. I will focus on each match. Hopefully, I can play better in the quarterfinals than I did in the previous round,” she added.

The ninth-seeded pair started the match strongly and put pressure on Bondar/Kalinina from the opening set. Aldila/Erin capitalized on break opportunities to take the first set 6-2. The Hungary-Ukraine pair improved their performance in the second set. The two pairs remained closely matched until 4-4 before Bondar/Kalinina broke Aldila/Erin’s serve and secured the set 6-4.

“We won the first set quite comfortably. But in the second set, our opponents played better. We struggled a little and made many mistakes,” she emphasized.

Aldila/Erin then regained their best form in the deciding set. They immediately took a 4-0 lead after breaking their opponents’ serve twice. Bondar/Kalinina reduced the deficit to 2-4, but Aldila/Erin maintained their momentum by winning the next two games to secure the victory.

In the one-hour-and-57-minute match, Aldila/Erin led in total points, 92-77. They also converted four of six break-point opportunities, while Bondar/Kalinina converted only one of three.

In the quarterfinals, Aldila/Erin will face American pair Ashlyn Krueger and Robin Montgomery, who defeated Germany-Turkey pair Tatjana Maria and Zeynep Sonmez 6-3, 6-2. The quarterfinal is scheduled for Wednesday, September 9, morning, Jakarta time. ***
