RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta – Indonesia’s ambition to become a hub for combat sports in Asia is gaining momentum as BYON Combat Showbiz 8 brings together fighters from Indonesia, Malaysia, Iran, Turkey, and Ireland in Jakarta on Saturday, August 29, 2026.
BYON Combat President Yoshua Marcellos, or Cellos as he is affectionately called, described the event as a milestone in building Indonesia’s reputation on the international stage.
“If Las Vegas is known as the global arena for combat sports, then BYON Combat is positioning itself as the center of combat in Asia,” he said after leading the weigh-in at Tennis Indoor Senayan in Central Jakarta, on Friday, August 28, 2026, as quoted by Antara.
This eighth edition introduces new elements, including placement matches tied directly to the Grand Prix.
One of the headline bouts features Indonesia’s Jeka Saragih against Malaysia’s Ammarul Shafiq in the 67 kg welterweight division, with the winner earning the Byon Kickstriking Asia Belt and automatic entry to the Grand Prix.
Another placement match will see two Indonesian fighters face off against two Turkish contenders in the 61 kg category.
Cellos emphasized that the inclusion of Turkish fighters reflects BYON’s strategy to broaden its international network. He noted that Turkey’s kickboxing scene is rapidly growing, and its participation adds diversity and competitiveness to the Jakarta event.
Since its inception, BYON Combat has staged 14 fight nights and broken Asia’s pay-per-view records three times, underscoring its rising popularity. The organization aims to expand further into Southeast Asia and eventually bring in more fighters from Europe and across Asia.
“Our goal has always been to build a world-class platform in Indonesia. We want Indonesia to have a major combat sports stage recognized globally,” Cellos concluded.
BYON Combat Showbiz 8 will feature 13 matches across boxing and kickstriking, with several title fights including the Influencer Championship Boxing (ICB) National Belt and the Byon Kickstriking Asia Belt.
The event is expected to showcase not only international talent but also Indonesia’s growing role in shaping the future of combat sports in the region. ***
