RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Amri Syahnawi and Nita Violina Marwah’s bronze-medal finish at the 2026 Badminton World Federation (BWF) World Championships in New Delhi, India, has provided a boost to Indonesia’s badminton regeneration efforts. The achievement is seen as an important foundation for reigniting motivation in the country’s mixed-doubles sector, which is rebuilding its competitiveness on the global stage.

Amri believes that the achievement at the 2026 BWF event instills confidence in their ability to compete against top pairs, while also serving as a boost for the mixed doubles sector as it restarts its training program.

“We hope this result motivates the mixed-doubles team, which is starting again from zero. Come on, friends, coaches, and younger players; let us work hard again and give it our very best once more,” said Amri in a statement issued by the Indonesian Badminton Association (PBSI) on Saturday, August 22, 2026.

Amri/Nita secured the bronze medal after their campaign was halted by world number one pair Feng Yan Zhe/Huang Dong Ping of China in the semifinals. The Indonesian pair fought for 97 minutes before losing 22–20, 14–21, 20–22. They took the deciding game to 20–20 after a closely contested match.

For Amri, the performance strengthened their conviction not only to remain competitive, but also to pursue higher achievements in future tournaments.

“I think this gives both of us more confidence to perform consistently at this level, to train harder and improve further. We can aim for a higher place on the podium,” he said, as quoted by Antara.

Their confidence also grew from their ability to withstand pressure throughout the match. In the first game, they managed to turn the match around when Feng/Huang were close to victory. Nita said they chose not to dwell on the score and instead continued looking for ways to preserve their chances.

“We tried to win as many points as possible and focused on the game. We looked for solutions together, what we needed to do and how we needed to play. In the end, we were able to catch up and regain the lead,” said Nita.

A similar situation unfolded in the deciding game, with both pairs remaining level deep into the final stage. Nita said the willingness to make bold decisions proved decisive when the score reached a critical point.

“We kept communicating. It was not over, so there was still an opportunity, but perhaps in the setting phase, they were bolder than we were,” she said.

Amri said he entered the semifinal with greater motivation after studying Feng/Huang’s game in detail. That preparation enabled Amri/Nita to play more freely despite facing the world’s top-ranked pair.

“I felt more enthusiasm than the night before. I really wanted to perform at my best in this semifinal. I studied their game closely, and perhaps that was what allowed us to play freely today,” said Amri.

Although they fell short of the final, Nita hoped the medal would demonstrate that they remain capable of competing at the highest level while repaying the trust shown in them throughout their development.

“This bronze medal is for Indonesia and for everyone who has continued to believe that we can still compete, including our families and coaches,” said Nita. ***
