RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesian tennis player Janice Tjen showed resilience in a tightly contested Cincinnati Open opener, fighting back through three sets to secure her place in the last 32.

Janice defeated Switzerland’s Viktorija Golubic 7-6(8), 5-7, 7-5 in a match that lasted three hours and 14 minutes on Sunday, August 16, 2026, local time.

The Indonesian was pushed from the opening set, with both players trading breaks and refusing to give each other an advantage. The set eventually went to a tie-break, where Tjen edged Golubic 10-8, Antara reported.

Golubic responded strongly in the second set. After falling behind 1-4, the Swiss player won four consecutive games to move ahead 5-4 before taking the set 7-5 and forcing a decider.

Tjen again made the first move in the deciding set, opening a 3-1 lead. Golubic fought back to level the score at 4-4, setting up another tense finish. With the match on the line, Janice produced a crucial break to lead 6-5. She then held serve in the next game to seal a 7-5 victory and book her place in the last 32.

The statistics reflected the intensity of the contest. Both players won exactly 126 of the 252 points played. Janice recorded four aces and converted six of 13 break points, while Golubic hit one ace and also converted six of 13 break-point opportunities.
