RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesian young athletes Anugrah Styawan Pujo Santoso and Hoshi Fatihah Azharah gained valuable international experience after competing at the World Athletics U20 Championships 2026 at Hayward Field in Oregon, United States.

Both athletes finished among the top 10 in their respective heats while facing strong competition from junior athletes from around the world.

"Indonesian young athletes faced very tough competition with the best junior athletes from various countries," the Indonesian Athletics Association (PASI) said in a statement on Sunday, August 9, 2026, as quoted by Antara.

Anugrah, competing in the men's 110-meter hurdles Round 1, Heat 2, finished eighth with a time of 18.86 seconds.

The young Indonesian runner tried to perform at his best from the start and maintain his rhythm until approaching the finish line. However, his race ended with an incident at the final hurdle.

Anugrah stumbled while clearing the last hurdle and fell shortly before reaching the finish line, costing him time and leaving him eighth in the race.

Meanwhile, Hoshi, who competed in the women's 200-meter Round 1, Heat 3, finished sixth with a time of 24.60 seconds.

Their participation in the U20 world championships provided both athletes with an opportunity to assess their abilities against junior competitors from various countries.

The experience is expected to serve as valuable preparation for their future development and performances in international competitions.

PASI expressed appreciation for the hard work and dedication of the two athletes and their accompanying coaches in representing Indonesia at the U20 world championships.

Their participation is part of Indonesia's ongoing development program for young athletes as they pursue higher achievements on the international stage. ***
