Indonesia’s Underwater Hockey Gains Momentum with Asian Championship Medals

RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta – Indonesia’s underwater hockey teams made their mark at the CMAS Asian Underwater Hockey Championship 2026, securing a silver and a bronze at the Aquatic Centre, Seruni Hotel in Cisarua, Bogor Regency, West Java, from August 5–8.
The silver medal came from Cucut Underwater Hockey in the U15 category after a narrow 4–5 loss to Malaysia A, while the elite women’s team earned bronze following a 3–11 defeat to the Philippines.
“Congratulations to the Elite Women’s Team and Cucut UWH for their achievements,” Indonesian Underwater Sport Association (POSSI) Secretary General Nur Kholis said, as quoted by Antara.
He thanked athletes, officials, CMAS delegates, organizers, and volunteers for their contributions.
POSSI Chairman Makhruzi Rahman emphasized that the results should serve as motivation for Indonesian athletes to sharpen their skills for future international competitions. “I hope this championship helps expand public awareness of underwater hockey while encouraging athlete development,” he said.
The tournament featured 276 athletes from seven countries including Singapore, Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand, Japan, China, and Indonesia, competing across elite men’s, elite women’s, U15, and U19 categories.
Indonesia fielded national teams in the elite divisions and clubs such as Cucut Underwater Hockey, Bhinneka Stars, and Searia in the youth categories.
For Indonesia, the medals represent more than just podium finishes. They highlight the nation’s growing presence in Asian underwater hockey, the importance of youth development, and the potential to build stronger foundations for international competitiveness in the years ahead. ***
