RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesian rider Mario Suryo Aji’s promising pace at Silverstone was undone by a crash in Q2, leaving him 18th on the grid for the 2026 Moto2 British Grand Prix.

Mario collided with Zonta van den Goorbergh during the qualifying on Saturday, August 8, 2026, local time, sending both riders off track and forcing a temporary red‑flag stoppage.

The incident ended Mario’s session after just two laps, preventing him from setting a valid time.

The setback was disappointing given his strong form in practice on Friday, where he clocked 2:02.590 to finish eighth, only 0.775 seconds behind fastest rider Dani Holgado. That performance had earned him direct entry into Q2 without passing through Q1.

Van den Goorbergh, also involved in the crash, managed to record a time of 2:10.178, placing 17th. Pole position went to Izan Guevara, who posted 2:01.483, ahead of Alonso Lopez (+0.326s) and Ivan Ortola (+0.419s).

Mario, representing Idemitsu Honda Team Asia, will look to regroup for the race on Sunday, August 9, at Silverstone, aiming to convert his earlier speed into a stronger result. ***
