RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia strengthened its status as a regional taekwondo powerhouse after winning 18 medals in the poomsae competition at the 8th Asian Taekwondo Indonesia Open Championships 2026, held at Tennis Indoor Senayan Jakarta, from August 1-2.

Indonesia finished with seven gold, four silver, and seven bronze medals, Antara reported.

On the opening day, Indonesia secured six gold medals through Supratino Djoko (Individual Male Over 65), Rhozy Muhammad Harfizh Fachriur (Individual Male Under 30), Harsono Daniel (Individual Male Under 50), A. Md Ridwan (Individual Male Under 65), Rochmah IR. Siti (Individual Female Under 60), and the duo A.K. Nathania/A. Hannayaka (Pair Under 30).

The silver medals were claimed through Vernando Joni (Individual Male Under 60), Yonathan Yonthathan (Individual Male Under 50), and Komara Kinara Abbabiel Leninda (Individual Female Under 30).

The bronze medals were earned by Widjaja Sudibio (Individual Male Over 65), Aisy Rohadatul (Individual Female Under 30), and the freestyle pair M. Anil and A.N.R. Nasution.

On the second day, Sultan Andi added Indonesia's seventh gold medal by winning the Freestyle Individual Male Over 17 category.

Indonesia also secured another silver medal in the Recognized Men Team Under 30 event and four bronze medals through the Recognized Women Team Under 30, Cahya Kirana Mahiswari, Aurelia Keisha (Freestyle Individual Female Over 17), and Saputra Wawan (Freestyle Individual Male Over 17).

The tournament will continue with the kyorugi events from August 3-5 at the same venue in Jakarta.

The 8th Asian Taekwondo Indonesia Open Championships 2026 brings together nearly 500 athletes from 36 countries. As a World Taekwondo G2‑rated event, it carried weight for competitors chasing ranking points toward the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics.

A total of 36 titles were contested at the tournament, 18 in poomsae (forms) and 18 in kyorugi (sparring).

Beyond the competition, the tournament highlighted a unique collaboration between the Indonesian Taekwondo Federation (PBTI) and the Indonesian Military (TNI).

The partnership was designed to ensure smooth international hosting as well as to strengthen athlete development and provide career pathways for top performers within the military ranks. ***
