RRI.CO.ID, Semarang - The Indonesia's Ministry of Youth and Sports held a Training of Trainers (ToT) for Disability Sports Activists in Semarang, Central Java, on July 25-26, 2026. The event was attended by 115 participants from the Central Java National Paralympic Committee (NPC) and Special Olympics Indonesia (SOIna), and aimed to overcome the limitations of access and facilities for people with disabilities in sports.

The event was officially opened by Dwijayanto Sarosa Putera, Principal Expert Policy Analyst for the Deputy for Sports Culture at the Ministry of Youth and Sports. In his remarks, he highlighted the sports participation rate for people with disabilities in Indonesia, which has only reached 11.6 percent.

Dwijayanto emphasized that this low figure is not due to a lack of interest from people with disabilities. He believes it is more driven by limited access, limited disability-friendly facilities, and a scarcity of competent coaches in the field of inclusion.

He hopes this training will have an impact beyond simply transferring technical knowledge to participants. Dwijayanto wants participants to return home as agents of change and talent scouts capable of discovering high-achieving talent in their respective communities.

Over the two days, participants received training in the form of presentations from resource persons and hands-on sports practice sessions. The series of activities concluded with an evaluation or post-test to measure participants' competency acquisition.

The Head of the Sports Culture Division of the Central Java Provincial Youth and Sports Office, Anton Asfihani, expressed the local government's full support for this program. He described the Training of Participants (ToT) as a strategic agenda for maintaining the sustainability of disability sports development, particularly in Central Java.

The Head of the Organizational Division of the Central Java NPCI, Slamet Widodo, considered this program a clear demonstration of the Ministry of Youth and Sports' commitment to people with disabilities. One participant, Widyawati, stated that she would utilize her knowledge to discover new talent in remote areas, in line with the Ministry's goal of creating a snowball effect in inclusive sports development.
