RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia's women's doubles pair Rachel Allessya Rose/Febi Setianingrum gained valuable lessons despite a first-round exit at BWF World Tour Super 750 Japan Open 2026, as they prepare for an immediate rematch against China's Jia Yi Fan/Zhang Shu Xian at next week's China Open.

Rachel/Febi were eliminated after losing to the second-seeded Chinese pair in three games, 11-21, 21-19, 14-21, in Tokyo, Japan, on Wednesday, July 15, 2026.

Rachel admitted the Indonesian pair was disappointed with their performance, citing unforced errors and a lack of composure throughout the match.

"We're not satisfied with today's performance. We should have played better. We made too many mistakes and lacked composure," Rachel said in a statement released by the Indonesian Badminton Association (PBSI) on Wednesday, July 15, as quoted by Antara.

The Indonesians struggled to find their rhythm in the opening game as Jia/Zhang applied relentless pressure with an aggressive attacking approach.

Rachel said they were slow to adjust to the Chinese pair's tactical changes, which allowed their opponents to dominate the opening game.

"Compared to our previous meeting, they attacked much more aggressively and lifted the shuttle less. We realized that too late, and that became our mistake," she said.

Rachel/Febi responded strongly in the second game by reducing their use of high lifts and taking control of the front court, allowing them to level the match and force a deciding game.

"We found the right strategy in the second game by avoiding too many lifts and taking the initiative at the net. But in the third game, we couldn't maintain that pattern consistently," Febi said.

The defeat will serve as an important evaluation ahead of their first-round rematch against Jia/Zhang at China Open 2026 next week.

"We'll meet them again in the first round of the China Open next week. We have to improve our composure, stay focused from the beginning, and consistently execute the game plan," she concluded. ***
