RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesian women's doubles shuttlers Rachel Allessya Rose and Febi Setianingrum were eliminated in the quarterfinals of the China Open 2026 after falling to the eighth-seeded Chinese pair, Li Yijing and Luo Xumin, 18-21, 18-21.
The match lasted 45 minutes on Court 1 at the Olympic Sports Center Gymnasium in China on Friday, July 24, 2026. This was the first-ever meeting between Rachel/Febi and Li/Luo.
"We were under a lot of pressure during the match. Our returns were often too soft, which made it easy for them to attack us," Febi said in an official statement released by PBSI following the match on Saturday, July 25, 2026.
According to Febi, consistency and shot power are key areas they need to refine, especially with the World Championships coming up in August. "Looking ahead, we are preparing for our first World Championships. We need to improve our consistency and build stronger hitting power," she added.
Meanwhile, Rachel Allessya Rose noted that despite playing against the wind in the first game, their opponents maintained heavy attacking pressure. As a result, when positions switched in the second game, Li/Luo's shots gained even more power with the wind at their back.
"In the first game, they were playing against the wind, but their attack remained quite strong. That was actually our chance to take advantage. When we swapped sides in the second game, their power increased significantly, making it difficult for us to return the shuttlecock effectively," Rachel explained.
Despite the defeat, Rachel felt she gained valuable lessons from competing over the past two weeks, calling the loss a crucial foundation for future growth.
"There is a lot to learn from our matches over these two weeks. Playing multiple rounds allowed us to adapt to different styles of play, which was a clear positive," she said.
"However, some of our strategies were read by our opponents, while others worked smoothly. This will serve as valuable insight for our future improvements," she added with a smile. (Diva Rifdah-EN)
