RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia’s campaign at the Asian Boxing U19 and U23 Championships 2026 saw both triumph and setback on Monday, June 6, as Fredrik Suhendri Ampage delivered the host nation’s second victory while two teammates fell short in their bouts at Basket Hall, Senayan, Jakarta.

Competing in the men’s flyweight (50 kg) division, Fredrik outpointed Singapore’s Hans Harris Mohamed Yusra with a unanimous decision, Antara reported.

All five judges scored in his favor (29–28, 29–28, 30–27, 30–27, 29–28), securing Indonesia’s second win after Anggie Intania Chalik’s opening-day success against Thailand’s Pemika Payungkasem.

However, Marion Manuesa Morangki (women’s bantam, 54 kg) lost on points to Japan’s Korin Kokufu despite showing resilience, while Laskar Putra (men’s welter, 65 kg) was stopped in the first round by a technical knockout against the Philippines’ Mark Ashley Fajardo.

The results left Indonesia with two wins and two defeats after two days of competition.

The Red-and-White contingent’s challenge continues, with Mars de Volta scheduled to face Kazakhstan’s Yazan Alghmadi in the men’s lightweight (60 kg) division later in the day.

This year’s championships feature more than 400 boxers from 26 countries, with Indonesia fielding 19 athletes--10 in U19 and nine in U23. For many, the tournament marks their international debut, offering valuable experience and a chance to test themselves against Asia’s best.

Competing on home soil, the hosts aim to capitalize on local support to strengthen their presence in continental boxing and nurture the next generation of talent. ***
