House Seeks Clarification on Luxury Amenities at Cibinong Penitentiary

RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - House of Representatives Commission XIII held a meeting with the Directorate General of Corrections to discuss the Indonesian Ombudsman's findings regarding luxury facilities at Cibinong Class IIA Penitentiary in Bogor, West Java.

The meeting, held at the Parliamentary Complex in Senayan, Jakarta, on Monday, Sept. 28, 2026, sought an explanation of developments and follow-up measures related to the findings.

Director General of Corrections Mashudi attended the meeting along with suspended Cibinong Class IIA Penitentiary head Wisnu Hani Putranto. Discussions focused on the Ombudsman's findings regarding luxury facilities located in the rear section of the prison complex.

Commission XIII speaker Willy Aditya said the commission had also invited the Ombudsman to attend the meeting. However, the Ombudsman was unable to participate because Commission XIII's request letter had yet to receive a response from House Commission II.

"There has been no response today, so the Indonesian Ombudsman cannot yet attend to convey what we previously requested. The meeting is open to the public," Willy said.

Previously, the Indonesian Ombudsman found several facilities described as apartment-standard at Cibinong Class IIA Penitentiary during an unannounced inspection on Sept. 23, 2026.

Indonesian Ombudsman member Fikri Yasin said the facilities were located at the rear of the prison, separate from the general housing blocks for inmates. "Good, very good, apartment standard. It means that although they are small, they have all the necessary facilities," he said.

The Ombudsman said the inspection was its second visit to Cibinong Penitentiary in 2026. During the first inspection in July, the team said it was unable to enter the facility to conduct an examination.

When the Ombudsman returned for another inspection on Sept. 23, the team said it was again initially denied access despite carrying official documents and wearing institutional identification.

The Ombudsman team eventually entered several areas of the prison after an argument and a brief physical altercation with security personnel. The inspection then continued to examine the reported luxury facilities in the area.

The facilities included several residential buildings and supporting amenities within the prison complex. In addition to the residential buildings, the Ombudsman found facilities under construction, including a gym, a swimming pool, and a golf simulator. (Misni Parjiati)
