RRI.CO.ID, Banten - The Banten Animal, Fish, and Plant Quarantine Agency (Banten Quarantine) urges young people, especially students, to boldly view the agricultural sector as a business opportunity and understand the importance of biosecurity. This emerged during the visit of the Indonesian Young Palm Oil Reform Movement (SawitNus) to Banten Quarantine in order to explore collaboration in holding a national seminar for the younger generation.
Based on information received on Monday, September 14, 2026, Banten Quarantine aims to instill in students the understanding that the courage to build a business in the agricultural sector must be accompanied by knowledge of quarantine regulations. Such understanding is considered an inseparable part of running a business in this field.
Amidst the rising trade and mobility of agricultural commodities, animals, fish, and plants, business opportunities in this sector are expanding significantly. However, these opportunities come with global challenges, particularly regarding the maintenance of animal health, the preservation of biological resources, and food safety, as well as the prevention of the entry and spread of pests and diseases from abroad.
Therefore, the Quarantine Agency plays a crucial role in educating the younger generation that compliance with quarantine regulations is not a business obstacle. On the contrary, such compliance is an integral part of building a business that is safe, high-quality, and competitive in the global market.
The Head of the Banten Quarantine Agency, Duma Sari, stated that the younger generation has a great opportunity to become key players in the future development of the agricultural sector. "We want young people to view the agricultural sector not merely as a production sector, but also as a space for innovation and business creation. However, when discussing trade and the movement of commodities, an understanding of quarantine regulations is essential," Duma said.
According to her, an understanding of quarantine needs to be introduced within educational settings so that young people possess a more comprehensive perspective when they eventually enter the field as entrepreneurs, academics, or innovators in agriculture. “Quarantine services exist not to limit opportunities, but to ensure that the movement of animals, fish, and plants complies with regulations while safeguarding Indonesia’s biosecurity. We hope the younger generation will become entrepreneurs who are bold and innovative, yet also compliant with regulations,” she said.
This collaborative spirit aligns with the series of commemorations of the 149th anniversary of Quarantine through the Quarantine Goes to Campus program, which brings Banten Quarantine closer to the world of education to introduce the strategic role of quarantine. Collaborations with various stakeholders, including SawitNus, are expected to bridge the gap between academia, the youth, the business sector, and the Quarantine Agency, ultimately fostering a generation capable of identifying opportunities and ready to tackle global trade challenges by meeting applicable standards and regulations.
