Manpower Ministry Urges Workers to Understand Employment Contracts Before Signi

RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The Ministry of Manpower has reminded workers to understand their rights and obligations and carefully review the terms of their employment contracts before signing them. This understanding is important to ensure that workers are aware of the terms governing their employment relationship with their employers.

Director General of Industrial Relations and Employment Social Security Development at the Ministry of Manpower, Indah Anggoro Putri, said workers need to understand the contents of their employment contracts, including the duties, rights, and responsibilities agreed upon with their employers.

“Workers need to understand the terms of their contracts, their duties, as well as their rights and responsibilities. At the same time, workplace regulations must also be observed,” Indah Anggoro Putri, said in a statement issued through the Ministry of Manpower’s Public Relations Bureau on Sunday, September 13, 2026.

According to her, understanding the terms of an employment contract helps workers know the rules that apply while performing their jobs. It is also important to ensure that their rights and obligations are fulfilled in accordance with the agreement and applicable laws and regulations.

Among the provisions that workers need to pay attention to are wages, working hours and rest periods, as well as annual leave for eligible workers. These provisions should be understood before workers agree to and sign an employment contract.

In addition, occupational safety and health (OSH) is an important aspect of the employment relationship. Companies are required to provide a safe working environment to protect workers from the risk of accidents and occupational illnesses.

Worker protection also includes participation in social security programs, including BPJS Employment and BPJS Health, in accordance with applicable regulations.

Indah affirmed that understanding workers’ rights must go hand in hand with fulfilling their obligations. Workers have rights that must be respected, while also being responsible for carrying out their duties in accordance with their employment contracts and applicable regulations.

“Rights and obligations should not be seen as conflicting matters, but rather as responsibilities that must be understood and carried out in balance,” she said.

A sound understanding of workers’ rights and obligations is expected to contribute to harmonious industrial relations. This will enable workers to perform their duties in accordance with the agreed terms while understanding the rights they are entitled to under the employment relationship.
