RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto underscored the importance of resilience and independence in national development as he joined fellow leaders at the BRICS Summit 2026 in New Delhi, India, on Saturday, September 12.
Speaking during the session on Inclusive Global Governance and Strengthening Multilateralism, President Prabowo emphasized that collective strength among BRICS members must begin with strong domestic foundations.
In his remarks, he first expressed gratitude to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, host and chair of BRICS this year, for the warm welcome extended to the Indonesian delegation. He also praised Modi’s leadership in guiding the bloc.
President Prabowo highlighted Indonesia’s recent entry into BRICS as a significant honor, noting the swift acceptance by founding members into an organization representing nearly half of the world’s population.
“It is a great honor for us to be here as a new member of BRICS, and we thank the founders for welcoming us so quickly,” he said, as quoted on the Presidential Secretariat's official website.
He stressed that national strength stems from the ability to meet citizens’ basic needs: food, energy, education, and opportunities for prosperity. “With unity, we become stronger. Strength begins at home, with our people,” he stated, adding that Indonesia seeks independence from external pressures and rejects being dictated by major powers.
The President argued that a solid foundation allows BRICS to expand cooperation in strategic areas, particularly energy. He pointed to the importance of connecting energy systems across regions to bolster economic growth and long‑term security.
Through BRICS, Indonesia aims to foster concrete collaboration in food security, energy, education, and economic development -- initiatives that not only strengthen member states but also deliver tangible independence and prosperity for their citizens. ***
