RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Coordinating Minister for Political and Security Affairs, Djamari Chaniago, has called on the central and local governments to accelerate post-conflict recovery efforts in Jayawijaya and Lanny Jaya Regencies, Papua Highlands. Djamari stressed that affected communities should not have to wait too long for assistance, urging all parties to immediately carry out their respective responsibilities.

“The first thing I want to say is, do not let the people wait too long. This means everyone must move quickly,” Djamari said while chairing a Coordination Meeting on Accelerating Post-Conflict Social Recovery in Jakarta, Wednesday, September 9, 2026.

He also called for clear responsibilities among implementing agencies to ensure an effective recovery process and prevent overlapping efforts. The Coordinating Minister stressed that the response should prioritize basic needs identified and reported by local governments.

“I saw earlier that the speakers discussed housing, schools, and other matters. However, the main priorities should be those reported by the regent, namely 333 houses, one bridge, two schools, two elementary school classrooms, and one early childhood education facility,” he mentioned.

Meanwhile, Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Cultural Affairs, Pratikno said post-conflict recovery should not focus solely on rebuilding infrastructure. The government must also ensure that people's lives are restored while taking steps to prevent similar social conflicts from recurring, including through a cultural approach.

He called on local governments to conduct rapid and accurate data collection to support the verification, budgeting, and implementation of recovery programs. He said accurate data is essential to prevent duplication of assistance and ensure that no affected communities are left behind in the recovery process.
