RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - President Prabowo Subianto has directed ministers to develop education-based rehabilitation models for drug users. The approach will particularly focus on helping teenagers and young people recover.
The president issued a directive during a limited meeting with several ministers Tuesday. The meeting took place at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta on Tuesday, 29 September 2026.
After the meeting, the Higher Education, Science, and Technology Minister Brian Yuliarto said universities already developed rehabilitation practices. These practices combine educational approaches with technology to support recovery processes.
Doctors from Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital and researchers from the University of Indonesia also provided input. Their experiences will help shape the government’s planned rehabilitation concept for drug users.
The government wants rehabilitation to help young users recover and become productive again. “The president directed that existing educational models and curricula can truly bring change,” Brian said to the press.
President Prabowo also instructed officials to study rehabilitation practices developed in other countries. Particular attention will be focused on educational models utilizing technological advances during rehabilitation.
Minister Brian said the government would formulate these practices together with the universities involved. These institutions include those with medical and psychology faculties participating in rehabilitation programs.
The planned approach also addresses concerns about young people’s access to drugs. Officials aim to ensure rehabilitation helps young users recover while supporting productive lives.
The government’s planned model therefore combines recovery with education and future productivity. Minister Brian Yuliarto emphasized that rehabilitation should go beyond simply helping users become healthy again.
