BNPB Strengthens Disaster Preparedness as 1,730 Events Recorded Nationwide

RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Following the recording of 1,730 disaster events from January to September 7, 2026, the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) is strengthening disaster preparedness and mitigation across all regions.

BNPB Principal Secretary Rustian said all 38 provinces and 514 regencies/cities fall within the moderate‑to‑high disaster risk category.

“Based on BNPB data compiled up to September 7, 2026, there were 1,730 disaster events, predominantly hydrometeorological and geological disasters,” Rustian said during a press conference in Jakarta on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, as quoted by Antara.

Hydrometeorological disasters accounted for the highest number of incidents, including 627 forest and land fires, 543 floods, 324 extreme weather events, 105 landslides, 101 droughts, and 14 tidal surge and abrasion incidents. Geological disasters included 13 earthquakes and three volcanic eruptions.

These disasters caused significant physical damage, affecting 111,533 houses: 29,143 severely damaged, 24,521 moderately damaged, and 57,869 lightly damaged. Damage also extended to public facilities, including 2,361 educational facilities, 867 houses of worship, 230 health facilities, 751 offices, and 92 collapsed bridges.

To accelerate emergency response, rehabilitation, and reconstruction, the BNPB is mobilizing national resources and providing support to local administrations.

For the 2026 fiscal year, the BNPB manages a regular budget of IDR 1.05 trillion, which was supplemented by IDR 26.88 billion to accelerate the rehabilitation and reconstruction of severely damaged housing, bringing the total to IDR 1.08 trillion. The agency also received an initial allocation of IDR 4.62 trillion in ready‑to‑use funds (DSP) for emergency response.

BNPB has proposed an additional DSP allocation of approximately IDR 5.67 trillion to the Ministry of Finance to support disaster response and physical rehabilitation efforts throughout 2026.

“We are currently processing a proposal to increase the DSP allocation with the Ministry of Finance. We are proposing approximately IDR 5.67 trillion in the near future,” Rustian said.

In its five‑year recap (2022–2027), BNPB noted that national disaster management funding has remained relatively stable, ranging between IDR 4 trillion and IDR 5 trillion annually: IDR 5.46 trillion in 2022, IDR 5.48 trillion in 2023, IDR 5.13 trillion in 2024, and IDR 4.91 trillion in 2025.

For the 2027 fiscal year, the government has approved an initial BNPB budget ceiling of IDR 1.12 trillion, including IDR 126.24 billion for accelerated post‑disaster recovery in Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra.

BNPB emphasized that national disaster management funding remains adequate and continues to receive full government priority. Rustian said this budgetary support is essential to ensure the government is prepared to protect the public during disaster emergencies. ***
