RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The Indonesian government has emphasized the importance of shared responsibility among the government, the public, and digital platforms in upholding information integrity in the digital space. The effort is considered essential to prevent the spread of misinformation, disinformation, and the misuse of digital platforms.
Vice Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs, Nezar Patria, said social media platforms play an important role in ensuring that the information circulating online does not increase the risks of misinformation and disinformation. The government is also continuing to engage with global technology companies to discuss the governance of the digital space.
“We prioritize information integrity. And information integrity is not only a concern for the government, but must also be a commitment and part of the responsibility of social media platforms themselves,” Nezar said while receiving representatives of the Open Government Partnership (OGP) at the Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs in Jakarta on Wednesday, September 2, 2026.
According to him, challenges related to content moderation and digital governance are cross-border issues that require the involvement of all stakeholders. Therefore, the government is opening opportunities for civil society participation in the development of digital policies to ensure that regulations take into account the views and concerns of various stakeholders.
Public participation has also been encouraged in the development of regulations on Artificial Intelligence (AI), involving more than 300 participants through more than 40 meetings. Previously, the government also involved various stakeholders in discussions on Presidential Regulation Draft Number 32 of 2024 on the Responsibilities of Digital Platform Companies in Supporting Quality Journalism, also known as the Publisher Rights regulation.
“In my view, in many policy-making processes here, we involve civil society. We are one of the ministries strongly committed to involving civil society in the development of policies,” he explained.
Nezar added that information governance is part of a broader digital transformation agenda, which also includes the development of digital infrastructure, data interoperability, telecommunications network quality, digital talent, and a safe digital environment. The government hopes that digital connectivity will provide tangible benefits to the public in the social, economic, and cultural spheres.
