RRI.CO.ID, Tarakan - RRI.CO.ID, Tarakan - The Indonesian Quarantine Agency (Barantin) is encouraging the strengthening of synergy with business actors in North Kalimantan to accelerate the increase in exports of the region's leading commodities. Head of the Indonesian Quarantine Agency, Abdul Kadir Karding, made the statement during the NGOBRAS KALTARA (Chatting Together with Quarantine and Business Actors) event held in Tarakan on Sunday, August 30, 2026.

In the event, Karding emphasized that Quarantine not only performs supervisory functions but also acts as an economic tool and trade accelerator to help Indonesian commodities meet international market requirements. "Quarantine does not only act as an inspector but also serves as a trade facilitator." We accompany and provide assistance to business actors so that they can meet the requirements of the destination countries, while also accelerating safe trade flows," he said.

Based on BEST-TRUST data for the period from January 1 to August 28, 2026, the certification of animal, fish, and plant commodity exports from North Kalimantan has been conducted 3,704 times. As a result, the certification has a total value reaching Rp2.238 trillion.

The export value consists of animal commodities amounting to Rp 263.15 million, fish commodities amounting to Rp 974.998 billion, and plant commodities reaching Rp 1.264 trillion. These three sectors are the main pillars supporting the export performance of North Kalimantan during that period.

From the commodity side, processed wood is recorded as the plant commodity with the highest export value, reaching Rp 842.315 billion. Meanwhile, from the fisheries sector, giant prawns recorded an export value of Rp 522.128 billion, making it a leading commodity in that sector.

Karding conveyed that this great potential needs to be continuously strengthened through quality improvement, processing, and meeting the standards of destination countries, including sanitary and phytosanitary requirements, so that commodities from North Kalimantan can be more widely accepted in international markets. He also encouraged business actors to strengthen downstream processing so that regional commodities have added value and higher competitiveness.

Through the NGOBRAS KALTARA activities, Barantin hopes that communication and collaboration with business actors will become stronger, so that various obstacles in the certification process, fulfillment of technical requirements, and market access can be addressed together. With the support of quarantine services, fulfillment of international standards, and strengthening of downstream processes, the leading commodities of North Kalimantan are expected to expand their export markets and increase their contribution to regional economic growth and national exports.
