Transportation Ministry Urges Public to Ensure Buses Are Roadworthy

RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The Directorate General of Land Transportation at the Ministry of Transportation has urged the public to ensure that vehicles used for travel meet technical and administrative roadworthiness requirements.

Director General of Land Transportation, Aan Suhanan, said the appeal was particularly important for people using buses to transport large numbers of passengers.

“We urge people using buses to ensure that the buses have valid permits and are roadworthy, as demonstrated by a valid periodic inspection certificate,” Aan said in Jakarta on Tuesday, August 26, 2026.

According to him, ensuring that vehicles have valid permits and meet roadworthiness standards is essential to ensure the safety of all passengers during the journey, as well as other road users.

Aan said his office continues to find buses operating with expired permits. Therefore, the Directorate General of Land Transportation will take firm action against bus operators that operate vehicles with expired administrative documents or periodic inspection certificates.

“We still find buses whose permits are no longer valid. We will take firm action against bus operators that operate vehicles with expired administrative documents or periodic inspections in accordance with the applicable regulations,” he stressed.

In addition, the public can check the permit status and roadworthiness of buses through the Spionam or Mitra Darat applications. The check can be conducted by entering the vehicle’s license plate number to view the status of its permits and periodic inspection.

He also urged transportation operators to ensure that the vehicles they operate are roadworthy and that drivers are in good health and have had sufficient rest before going on duty.

“Before using a bus, people can check it through the Spionam or Mitra Darat applications. Simply enter the vehicle number, and the status of the vehicle’s permits and periodic inspection will appear,” he said.

He added that travel safety is a shared responsibility, and both operators and the public need to ensure that all safety requirements are met before vehicles are used.
