Government Plans to Restore Fisheries Facilities After NTT Quake

RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta – The Indonesian Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) is intensifying efforts to validate data on fishermen, crew members, vessels, fishing gear, and facilities affected by the recent earthquake in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT).

The ministry's spokesperson Ayu Rahmawati said on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, that the ongoing assessment aims to measure the disaster’s impact on local communities and the fishing industry.

“Assessment continues, including accelerated validation of fishermen and crew data, vessels, fishing gear, facilities, victims, evacuees, and estimated business losses,” she explained.

Beyond data collection, the ministry’s disaster response task force is prioritizing technical inspections of damaged fisheries infrastructure, including Alok Fishing Port and the local fish auction center. Facilities deemed safe will be reopened quickly to support community livelihoods.

The task force is coordinating closely with KKP’s technical units, the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB), the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), the National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas), and local administrations.

Meanwhile, KKP continues to deliver aid in collaboration with BNPB. Assistance includes food supplies, family essentials, baby and women’s needs, hygiene kits, and other support items.

The third phase of aid, handed over to BNPB’s post at Halim Perdanakusuma Air Base on August 22, comprised 650 sarongs, 8,100 baby diapers, 9,600 sanitary pads, 1,440 toothbrushes, 2,880 tubes of toothpaste, 800 bars of soap, and 624 detergent sachets.

KKP has also mobilized donations, collecting IDR 920 million by August 22. Of this, IDR 104.29 million was used for food packages in Kendari and IDR 48.66 million for aid packages at the central post, leaving around IDR 767.06 million available.

The ministry assured that all aid and donations will be managed transparently and distributed based on assessed needs of quake-affected communities in NTT. ***
