BNPB Speeds Up Aid Distribution for NTT Earthquake Victims

RRI.CO.ID, NTT - Indonesia’s National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) is accelerating the distribution of logistical assistance to communities affected by the earthquake in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT). As of Sunday August 23, 2026, a total of 1,226 tons of aid had been delivered to several affected areas.

Acting Head of the BNPB Center for Disaster Data, Information, and Communication BNPB Berton SP Panjaitan, said the assistance was being transported by air and sea. The distribution aims to ensure that basic necessities reach affected communities and displaced residents.

“Cumulatively, from August 15 to 23, 2026, the total logistical assistance distributed reached 1,226 tons through 77 flight sorties and one sea vessel,” Berton said during an online press conference from Jakarta on Sunday.

The assistance is being distributed through two logistics support posts in Labuan Bajo and Maumere. From these locations, supplies are transported to affected communities, including areas that remain difficult to access following the earthquake.

BNPB reported that the earthquake had killed 91 people as of Sunday, August 23. A total of 1,286 people were also injured, while 161,084 residents were forced to flee their homes.

The agency said the total amount of assistance collected and received at national logistics support posts had reached 1,750 tons. The supplies came from 77 donors supporting relief efforts for communities affected by the disaster.

The continued distribution of aid is part of the government’s response to the humanitarian impact of the earthquake in NTT. Authorities are prioritizing the delivery of essential supplies to areas where access remains challenging.

The government is expected to maintain the flow of logistical assistance as emergency response efforts continue across affected areas. The distribution by air and sea is intended to help ensure that displaced residents and other survivors receive essential support during the recovery process.
