Ministry Mobilizes Resources for Earthquake‑Affected Infrastructure

RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The Indonesian Ministry of Public Works is prioritizing road and bridge repairs as part of its emergency response following the earthquake in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT). The Ministry has deployed its regional Technical Implementation Units (UPT) to inspect and repair damaged infrastructure.

Public Works Minister Dody Hanggodo said teams have inspected several road sections and bridges affected by the earthquake. Repairs have begun at multiple locations, while one bridge still requires further attention.

“We have inspected the situation on the ground. Work has started at several points, but we still have matters to resolve. One bridge still requires attention, and we are working to address it as soon as possible,” Minister Dody said in a statement in Jakarta on Sunday, August 16, 2026, as cited by Antara.

He delivered the update during a coordination meeting on the emergency response to the 7.7‑magnitude earthquake that struck the Flores Island region of NTT. The meeting was held in Labuan Bajo, West Manggarai Regency.

The meeting was led by Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Cultural Affairs (Menko PMK) Pratikno and attended by ministers and deputy ministers of the Red and White Cabinet, representatives from the TNI and Polri, and regional leaders. Discussions focused on the latest conditions and efforts to meet affected communities' needs.

The Ministry of Public Works is repairing infrastructure essential for public mobility and aid distribution. Repairs are being carried out in stages based on the severity of disruptions and operational needs.

“We’ve coordinated with regional office teams to respond to locations needing attention. We are ready to assist and collaborate with other ministries and agencies if further needs arise,” he said.

The Ministry is working swiftly to restore connectivity for communities while ensuring that aid distribution and basic services continue throughout the post‑earthquake emergency response period in Flores.
