BNPB Promotes Best Practices for More Effective Disaster Management

RRI.CO.ID, Bogor – The National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) urged the strengthening of more targeted disaster management programs through the Disaster Management Technical Coordination Meeting (Rakortek PB) in Bogor City, West Java, Monday, 10 August 2026. The 2026 Rakortek PB, held from August 10 to 13, 2026, serves as a strategic forum to strengthen the synchronization of disaster management programs between the central and regional governments.

The forum is attended by representatives of Regional Disaster Management Agencies (BPBD) and Regional Development Planning Agencies (Bappeda) from provinces across Indonesia, as well as BNPB working units. The series of activities began with participant registration, followed by a best practices session and discussion.

One of the main agendas on the first day was a discussion on the response to Cyclone Senyar in Aceh, West Sumatra, and North Sumatra provinces. In addition to discussing experiences in responding to the cyclone, the forum also addressed efforts to strengthen regional capacity for adaptive, inclusive, and sustainable disaster management.

The discussion is important in promoting knowledge-sharing among regions while identifying good practices that can be replicated according to the specific risk characteristics of each area. The discussion was moderated by BNPB Director of Early Warning Berton Suar Pelita Panjaitan.

Lessons learned from various regions are an important part of Rakortek PB, providing an opportunity to review disaster management practices that have been implemented and identify approaches that can be further developed in accordance with the risk characteristics of each region.

Through the experience-sharing session, participants are expected to gain valuable insights into disaster response, particularly in dealing with disasters that have widespread and complex impacts. Experiences from disaster response efforts in several regions can also serve as references for other areas in strengthening preparedness and their capacity to respond to disaster threats.
