RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia’s public financial management is facing new demands, with the Supreme Audit Agency (BPK) pushing for stronger governance through Government 5.0 digital technology and Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles.

The BPK believes that adopting Government 5.0 and ESG can improve the quality of governance. Both approaches are seen as essential to ensuring that the state budget is managed more transparently, accountably, and efficiently, while delivering tangible benefits to the public.

Member I of the BPK and Acting Head of the State Financial Audit Office (AKN) IV, Nyoman Adhi Suryadnyana, said financial audits must generate broader impact beyond issuing an opinion.

“They must also contribute to achieving Golden Indonesia 2045 by strengthening governance and sustainable development,” Nyoman said in a written statement in Jakarta on Saturday, August 8, 2026, as quoted by Antara.

Nyoman explained that Government 5.0 relies on digital technology, artificial intelligence (AI), data analysis, and cross‑sectoral collaboration in government administration.

Meanwhile, ESG ensures that the management of government resources incorporates environmental sustainability, social responsibility, and transparent, accountable governance.

The BPK considers both approaches inseparable. Their integration is expected to enhance policymaking and strengthen government governance.

In practice, the BPK has identified at least six challenges in implementing Government 5.0: disparities in digital transformation, fragmentation of government data, limited AI talent, governance integrity, human resource capacity, and cybersecurity and collaboration.

To address these challenges, the BPK advocates a whole‑of‑government approach that engages and integrates diverse stakeholders. This approach is necessary to prevent government transformation from occurring in isolation across agencies.

“The key to achieving the Golden Indonesia 2045 vision is to implement a combination of Government 5.0 with resource management that prioritizes sustainability through ESG principles,” Nyoman said.

Nyoman also emphasized that an Unqualified Opinion (WTP) is not the ultimate goal of auditing the financial reports of ministries and agencies.

“Instead, it serves as a foundation for continuously addressing weaknesses and shortcomings so that government governance becomes increasingly efficient, effective, and has a tangible impact on public welfare,” he said. ***
