RRI.CO.ID, Medan – The Financial Services Authority (OJK) has officially strengthened its leadership structure in North Sumatra Province to maintain financial services stability and drive regional economic growth. This strategic move was marked by the inauguration of a new official tasked with overseeing the dynamics of the local financial market amid global economic uncertainty.

The appointment of these new leaders is intended to optimize the regulatory mandate in accordance with the Law on the Development and Strengthening of the Financial Sector. The new leadership is expected to expand public access to financial services and strengthen coordination with local governments.

The importance of this appointment was emphasized directly by the senior leadership of the financial regulatory agency during the event. OJK Deputy Chairman of the Board of Commissioners, Hernawan Bekti Sasongko, stated that this leadership transition is viewed as a strategic opportunity to enhance the financial services sector’s contribution to the well-being of local communities.

“This inauguration is not merely a change in leadership, but a moment to strengthen the OJK’s role in the region as it faces increasingly complex economic dynamics and to expand the financial services sector’s contribution to public welfare,” he said at the Raja Inal Siregar Hall, North Sumatra Governor’s Office, on Friday, July 31, 2026.

In addition to strengthening its organizational structure, the OJK is also promoting the optimization of the Regional Economic Development Program and the Islamic finance ecosystem in North Sumatra. Local government officials have welcomed this initiative as a positive step to support the economic recovery of micro-entrepreneurs, farmers, and sectors affected by disasters.

Support for boosting the financial sector is complemented by improvements to the physical infrastructure of institutional facilities in the city of Medan. Hernawan noted that the OJK held a topping-off ceremony for the construction of a new seven-story office building designed with a green building concept.

“This building is not merely infrastructure; it is a center for coordination and collaboration to strengthen the OJK’s presence and support a healthy, inclusive, and sustainable financial services sector. Its presence is expected to further enhance supervisory functions and public services so that the OJK can be more responsive in supporting economic growth,” he said.
